Feliz Navidad! Maligayang Pasko! Mừng Chúa Giáng Sinh! Dear Brothers and Sisters,
We have been through a truly rough time. It will be a different Thanksgiving celebration for all of us this year. In the midst of a pandemic, the government has asked us to keep our Thanksgiving celebrations as small as possible in order to prevent the spread of coronavirus. While we will miss an opportunity for big gatherings with family and friends, we are thankful that we are safe and healthy. We remember and give thanks for those who have really touched our lives in special ways, and the many blessings that we have received over the past year. As a nation, we remember and give thanks for many men and women who put themselves in harm's way in order to protect and defend our freedom, to ensure public’s safety and protection and those whose life remains just a memory. We are also grateful to the doctors, nurses, and other healthcare workers who are willing to sacrifice their own safety in the line of duty to make us safe and healthy. In a special way, Fr. Pham and I gratefully appreciate your continued support of St. George Parish and especially your patience, understanding and openness to the changes and new ways of doing things in order to adjust to the pastoral needs of the parish during this pandemic. We thank our parish leadership team and volunteers who help disinfect the church after each Mass. As your pastor, I am thankful to God for each of you and for your family. It is a joy and a privilege to be your brother in Christ and serve alongside of you in building this parish community. May our service to the Lord "overflow in many thanksgivings to God" (2 Cor. 9:12), and may our faith in Him help us to get through this difficult time together! Happy Thanksgiving! Fr. Dear parishioners, we received instructions from the Diocese of San Bernardino today permitting us to have services outdoor. This is wonderful news! Our parish volunteers and coordinators will set up tents and chairs in the plaza in front of the Mary Lucas Hall for all future services, until we are allowed to have services inside the church again. As of this time, the Mass schedule has not changed, only that all will be done outdoor.
From the Director of Emergency Operations Collaborative: Today, Governor Newsom issued an Executive Order mandating a return to ‘shelter-in-place’ for all 29 counties which have been on the State’s ‘watch list’ during the past 14 days. All Southern California counties – including Ventura, Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, San Diego – are impacted by this revised directive. This order is effective immediately, and no later than end of business today, July 13, 2020. Due to the rapid rise of COVID cases, including an increase in both deaths and hospitalizations statewide, the Governor has reversed all phases of re-openings. The ‘shelter-in-place’ order closes, once again, all places of worship and all business/office activity EXCEPT for those activities deemed ‘critically necessary for the on-going operation of the business enterprise’. For the Diocese of San Bernardino, this means that we will be returning to the operational protocols of ‘essential infrastructure services’ as implemented in March 2020. This includes:
Diocesan communications and operations must operate ‘on-line’ through streaming, Zoom meetings, conference calls etc. as much as humanly possible and operationally feasible. It is important to note that this is a mandated order from the Governor of California, and cannot be over-ridden or circumvented by any County. To date, there has been no final State decision with respect to school re-openings. So, progress will continue on our school reopening plans, in that regard, by our Office of Catholic Schools and our EOC Office, until additional directives are received on schools from the State of California, Public Health Official. Should you have any questions with respect to the application of this executive order, please email/contact Ann Marie Gallant or David Acosta in the EOC office. Ann Marie Gallant, Director Emergency Operations Collaborative (EOC) Diocese of San Bernardino (909) 475-5441 Dear parishioners, It was great to see many of you again at the Sunday and Daily services again. Due to the different patterns of attendance since our opening, we have made changes to our Mass schedule. Please see the update below. "God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him might not perish but might have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him will not be condemned, but whoever does not believe has already been condemned, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God." (John 3:16-18) The Holy Trinity is based on a relationship of love between the three persons of God. God invites us into that relationship through the saving actions of our Lord Jesus Christ. Today, Fr. Ben, SVD, celebrated the live streamed bilingual Mass of the Feast of the Most Holy Trinity. On Pentecost Sunday, we celebrate the descending of the Holy Spirit who gave courage to confused and frightened disciples. Like them, we ask the Holy Spirit for the grace to persevere during this troubled time. The Mass was live streamed on May 31 at 9 am and celebrated by Fr. Dominic, SVD. And his commandments are: to love God with all of our hearts, our mind and our being and loving our neighbors as ourselves. The bilingual celebration was presided by Fr. Dominic on the 6th Sunday of Easter at 9 am at St. George Parish in Ontario, California. We began May a short while ago, Marian month par excellence, during which the faithful love to visit Shrines dedicated to Our Lady,” Pope Francis said. “This year, because of the health situation, we go spiritually to these places of faith and devotion, to place in the Holy Virgin’s heart our worries, expectations, and plans for the future. And, as prayer is a universal value, I have accepted the proposal of the Higher Committee of Human Fraternity so that next May 14 believers of all religions unite spiritually in a Day of Prayer and Fasting and Works of Charity, to implore God to help humanity overcome the coronavirus pandemic. Remember: May 14, all believers together, believers of different traditions, to pray, fast, and do works of charity.”
