    Pastor's Thanksgiving Message

    11/23/2020

    Dear Brothers and Sisters,
We have been through a truly rough time. It will be a different Thanksgiving  celebration for all of us this year. In the midst of a pandemic, the government has asked us to keep our Thanksgiving celebrations as small as possible in order to prevent the spread of coronavirus. While we will miss an opportunity for big gatherings with family and friends, we are thankful that we are safe and healthy. We remember and give thanks for those who have really touched our lives in special ways, and the many blessings that we have received over the past year.
As a nation, we remember and give thanks for many men and women who put themselves in harm's way in order to protect and defend our freedom, to ensure public’s safety and protection and those whose life remains just a memory. We are also grateful to the doctors, nurses, and other healthcare workers who are willing to sacrifice their own safety in the line of duty to make us safe and healthy.
In a special way, Fr. Pham and I gratefully appreciate your continued support of St. George Parish and especially your patience, understanding and openness to the changes and new ways of doing things in order to adjust to the pastoral needs of the parish during this pandemic. We thank our parish leadership team and volunteers who help disinfect the church after each Mass.
As your pastor, I am thankful to God for each of you and for your family. It is a joy and a privilege to be your brother in Christ and serve alongside of you in building this parish community. May our service to the Lord "overflow in many thanksgivings to God" (2 Cor. 9:12), and may our faith in Him help us to get through this difficult time together!  Happy Thanksgiving!
Fr. Trung Dominic T. Mai, SVD

    Queridos Hermanos y Hermanas,

St. George Parish Is Closed Until Further Notice

    7/14/2020

Dear parishioners, Our parish is closed again due to a high increase in the number of Covid-19 cases in our community and new directives from the state governor.  Please see the email message below for more information on our closure.  We will be live streaming our weekend Masses again every Sunday at 9 am. Stay safe and follow the health directives to protect yourself and your love ones.  Please continue to pray for our parish community and all those affected by Covid-19.

From the Director of Emergency Operations Collaborative:

    Today, Governor Newsom issued an
Executive Order mandating a return to ‘shelter-in-place’ for all 29 counties which have been on the State’s ‘watch list’ during the past 14 days.
All Southern California counties – including Ventura, Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, San Diego – are impacted by this revised directive.

This order is effective immediately, and no later than end of business today, July 13, 2020.

Due to the rapid rise of COVID cases, including an increase in both deaths and hospitalizations statewide, the Governor has reversed all phases of re-openings.  The ‘shelter-in-place’ order closes, once again, all places of worship and all business/office activity EXCEPT for those activities deemed ‘critically necessary for the on-going operation of the business enterprise’.

For the Diocese of San Bernardino, this means that we will be returning to the operational protocols of ‘essential infrastructure services’ as implemented in March 2020.

    This includes:
    • Closure of parish offices except for critical parish operations i.e. finance, payroll, limited information services to maintain website and Mass streaming.
    • Closure of all churches for indoor Masses, sacraments, funerals, weddings, baptisms, etc.  Graveside services with maximum of ten is permitted, subject to approval of cemetery.
    • Closure of Diocesan Pastoral Center/Rezek Center/Vocations Office except for those designated ‘essential operational offices’, as previously implemented in March 2020 such as payroll; information technology; human resources; facilities; accounting; parish assistance; financial affairs; construction and real estate; mission advancement; and, emergency operations etc.
    • Mandated ‘stay-at-home’/work-at-home order for those 65 or older.
    • Mandated ‘stay-at-home’/work-at-home order for any individual who is immune compromised/high-risk medical condition.

Diocesan communications and operations must operate ‘on-line’ through streaming, Zoom meetings, conference calls etc. as much as humanly possible and operationally feasible.  It is important to note that this is a mandated order from the Governor of California, and cannot be over-ridden or circumvented by any County.

To date, there has been no final State decision with respect to school re-openings.  So, progress will continue on our school reopening plans, in that regard, by our Office of Catholic Schools and our EOC Office, until additional directives are received on schools from the State of California, Public Health Official.

Should you have any questions with respect to the application of this executive order, please email/contact Ann Marie Gallant or David Acosta in the EOC office.

    Emergency Operations Collaborative (EOC)

Feast of the Most Holy Trinity Bilingual Mass

"God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him might not perish but might have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him will not be condemned, but whoever does not believe has already been condemned, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God." (John 3:16-18)

The Holy Trinity is based on a relationship of love between the three persons of God.  God invites us into that relationship through the saving actions of our Lord Jesus Christ.  Today, Fr. Ben, SVD, celebrated the live streamed bilingual Mass of the Feast of the Most Holy Trinity.

When the Virgin Mary appeared to Saint Juan Diego, she asked for a sanctuary to be erected where people can come to her in their needs.  In all our churches and in our homes, we have a special prayer area dedicated to the Virgin Mary, so that we can come to her to calm our fears and to ask for her intercession for us before God.  Here are her words.

"I wish and intensely desire that in this place my sanctuary be erected. Here I will demonstrate and exhibit and give all my love, my compassion, my help and my protection to the people. I am your merciful Mother. The merciful Mother of all of you who live united in this land, and of all people, of all those who love me. Here I will hear their weeping, their sorrow, and will remedy, and alleviate all their multiple sufferings, necessities and misfortunes."

"Listen, put it into your heart, my youngest and dearest son, that the thing that frightens you, the thing that afflicts you, is nothing: do not let it disturb you... Am I not here, I who am your Mother? Are you not under my shadow and protection? Am I not the source of your joy? Are you not in the hollow of my mantle, in the crossing of my arms? Do you need something more? Let nothing else worry or disturb you."

¿No estás bajo mi sombra y resguardo?

Dominic on the 6th Sunday of Easter at 9 am at St. George Parish in Ontario, California.

May 14 A Day for Prayer, Fasting, and work of Charity

Pope Francis: “We began May a short while ago, Marian month par excellence, during which the faithful love to visit Shrines dedicated to Our Lady,” Pope Francis said. “This year, because of the health situation, we go spiritually to these places of faith and devotion, to place in the Holy Virgin’s heart our worries, expectations, and plans for the future. And, as prayer is a universal value, I have accepted the proposal of the Higher Committee of Human Fraternity so that next May 14 believers of all religions unite spiritually in a Day of Prayer and Fasting and Works of Charity, to implore God to help humanity overcome the coronavirus pandemic. Remember: May 14, all believers together, believers of different traditions, to pray, fast, and do works of charity.”
